New research, which reconstructs the extent of ice in the sea between Greenland and Svalbard from the 13th century to the present indicates that there has never been so little sea ice as there is now. The research results from the Niels Bohr Institute, among others, are published in the scientific journal, Climate Dynamics.I am becoming more and more convinced that we are past the tipping point with climate change, and that even were the human race responds perfectly to climate concerns from now on, we would still end up with radical changes in world climate. Between this fact and my pessimistic view of human nature, I find myself unable to get very excited about things that 15 years ago I would have been strongly supporting, such as the Waxman-Markey bill, or the imminent expansion of nuclear energy. At this point, it is simply too little, too late.
